How Motherwell played

- By Brian Fowlie SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

FORMATION – 3-1-4-2

TREVOR CARSON (7 out of 10)

Confident in dealing with crosses and produced a fine save to deny Rooney as Aberdeen fought to get back in the match.

CEDRIC KIPRE (7)

Celebrated another extended contract by coming up with a strong defensive showing. He can sometimes be a little rash but kept his composure on this occasion and showed why he has so many admirers at other clubs.

TOM ALDRED (7)

Was playing for Bury in League One last season and is now looking forward to another cup final. The on-loan defender showed great composure.

CHARLES DUNNE (7)

Stephen Robinson knew the Ireland Under-21 international from Oldham and will be delighted to see him again coping well with the big occasion.

ANDREW ROSE (7)

Motherwell’s cup success will have reaffirmed his decision to give Scottish football a chance. Started his career in America but they don’t have days like this at Hampden in the USA. Made sure Well didn’t miss suspended skipper Carl Mchugh.

CHRIS CADDEN (7)

Didn’t perform the attacking performance he sometimes delivers but showed he’s a real team player and helped his side to dominate the congested midfield area.

LIAM GRIMSHAW (7)

Covered every blade of grass and didn’t allow Aberdeen a moment to dwell on the ball. An unsung hero of one of Motherwell’s greatest afternoon’s at Hampden Park

On to run the clock down).

ALLAN CAMPBELL (8)

A performance full of vim and vigour. He’s never afraid to stick in a crunching tackle but this young midfielder can also play a bit. Outperformed much more experience players in the Aberdeen ranks.

RICHARD TAIT (7)

Showed his usual composure and persistence. Good defensive display and a threat down the left. May have handled for the opener but played to the whistle and delivered a telling cross.

RYAN BOWMAN (7)

Bowman always delivers a rock-hard performance and he did it again. He puts the steel in the Steelmen

Came on with fresh legs).

CURTIS MAIN (8)

Well fans thought they couldn’t replace Louis Moult but Main has proved them wrong. Has really grown as a player in recent months. Second goal was an outstanding finish

On to keep it tight).

UNUSED SUBS – GRIFFITHS (Gk), BIGIRIMANA, FREAR, MCGUIRE.
