SPARTANS lifted their second league title, despite a goalless draw against thirdplaced EAST STIRLINGSHIRE. They now face Cove Rangers in the playoffs starting next weekend. Spartans’ manager Dougie Samuel was delighted, and said: “Our destiny was in our own hands. It would have been great to win, but the championship is the main thing. We’ve been playing catch up for the past few months and this is great achievement and a lot of hard work from the lads.” STIRLING UNI’S 2-0 win over EAST KILBRIDE was the shock of the day as Kilby had to win to have any chance of retaining their trophy. But, six minutes into the second half, Stirling went ahead with an Angus Mailer goal, and Rory Mcewan piled on the agony 13 minutes from time when he doubled their score. DALBEATTIE STAR eased the threat of relegation with a 4-1 win over SELKIRK, who went ahead in the fifth minute with a David Bango goal. But Star hit four, with Lewis Sloan grabbing a brace in the 15th and 32nd minutes and Curtiss Wilson got a third before the interval. Scott Milligan fired in a fourth in the 78th minute. EDINBURGH UNI thrashed GRETNA 5-1 and the Raydale Park side ended up with eight men after Jake Smith, Jack Hunter and Ellis Pearson were sent off in the last half -hour. Jack Gurthrie was the Uni hero, hitting a hat-trick after Joe Boyle had put the Scholars ahead early on. Guthrie scored in the 12th, 52nd and 66th minutes, before David Maskrey hit No.5 two minutes from time. Kingsley Grandison got Gretna’s goal. BSC GLASGOW beat bottom side HAWICK ROYAL ALBERT 5-0. Jack Smith put them ahead in 24 minutes and went on to score a hat-trick with two goals late on. Inbetween, Ross Mcmillan got a goal on the half-hour and Jamie Mills on 52 minutes. CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS got a narrow 1-0 win over EDUSPORT ACADEMY with goal ace David Churchill breaking the deadlock with a goal on the hour mark. WHITEHILL WELFARE were 4-2 winners over GALA FAIRYDEAN ROVERS after a dream start, with Fabio Neto and Kyle Mitchell putting them two up after only three minutes. Rys Craig pulled one back on 37 minutes for the Fairies, but Darren Mccraw in 58 minutes and Josh Morris five minutes from time put them 4-1 up before Grant Rose reduced the leeway two minutes from the end.
