Those who are more wealthy will still drink just as much. Is it a good thing or simply another tax on the poor? David J Foulis, Liverpool

In the long run young people will benefit. And it’s the future we need to focus on. Margaret Gibb, Fife

I don’t think it will make much difference. Those that have a problem with alcohol will find a way to get it, no matter the price. Jean-claude Huntzinger, Lochgelly

As an ex-policeman most of the drinkers I had to deal with were the kind who would go into a pub, drink as much as possible and, when kick-out time came, they were totally helpless or fighting drunk. Now them, I can do without! Davie Kerr, Lochaber

It’s a drastic move. I thought people had freedom of choice. We shouldn’t be told: “You can’t smoke this or you can’t drink that.” Linda Cox, Aberdeen

I think it’s a step too far and it’s not going to do much good in the short term. Robbie Russell, Elgin

It will hit working-class people hardest, leaving wealthy drinkers untouched.

Stephen Calder, Peterhead

This is a drastic and stupid move because of a minority who abuse alcohol. Graham D’arcy, Glasgow

I do not think minimum pricing will see the changes the Scottish Government hopes for. More crime will be committed by shoplifting and theft of alcohol. Allison Scotland, Roxburghshire

If someone has a drink problem, they are not going to be put off by price and will find the money, no matter what. Loran Smith, North Yorkshire
