We asked our Email Jury what sort of holidays they went on at 10 years old and what they would now tell themselves at that age

-

My brother and I went on holiday from where we lived in Dundee to our grandmother in Falkirk. That was our holiday – a trip on the train. Bill Bell,

Nottingham

I grew up in the war years so holidays as such did not start until 1946. I was 10 and travelled in a steam train from Glasgow to Aberdeen, where we stayed with a family in their home with service – in other words we provided the food and the lady of the house prepared it. James Thompson, East

Lothian

At 10 I went on my first holiday to Bournemouth. It was a small hotel and the food was not very good. I seem to remember the week was mostly spent driving around. There was not another until I was 17. Elizabeth O’regan,

Lincoln

I had appendicitis and spent my 10th birthday in hospital. My grandfather was ill at the same time and my hopes and fears were all mixed up together. We both recovered well. Lorna Smith,

North Yorkshire

We lived in Ulverston and travelled about 40 miles to Penrith for a week each year. Susan Ireland, Kendal

We went to Northern Ireland every summer until I was 14, as my grandparents lived there. What a trek it was from Aberdeen in the 50s and 60s, when the ferry was an overnight crossing. Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire

I think my main priority in life at that age was reading Enid Blyton and Bunty magazine. Margaret Gibb, Fife

We lived in the old Belgian Congo and on a couple of occasions we travelled to South Africa where our grandparents lived. It took five days by train and probably drove our grandmother mad.

Jean-claude Huntzinger, Lochgelly
