Sunnybank on course for Super League

In the North Region’s Juniors, DEVERONSID­E’S season ended with a 1-0 defeat to SUNNYBANK in the semi-final of the Super League play-off at Longside.

Scott Burnett grabbed the winner for the Aberdeen side, who will now play Newburgh Thistle for a place in next season’s top flight.

INVERNESS CITY crashed to defeat in the semi-final of the Mcleman Cup, opponents NEWBURGH THISTLE scoring four without reply at Gallowshil­l. MONTROSE ROSELEA completed their league campaign with a good win at DUFFTOWN. Aitken put the visitors ahead at the break, only for Taylor to equalise for Dufftown three minutes into the second period.

Goals from Archer and Coull in the last 15 minutes sealed the win for Roselea, who will finish seventh unless Stonheaven or Dufftown win their last fixture by a huge margin.

In the west, KILWINNING RANGERS’ Mcbookie.com Super Premier Division season that had seen a title challenge sustained until the closing weeks ended in disappoint­ment as they lost 2-1 at ROB ROY.

The Kirkintill­och side led through a Willie Sawyers goal. David Winters levelled before Lee Gallacher grabbed the goal that moved the hosts into eighth place with the Buffs finishing fourth.

The final automatic promotion place from the Super First Division has still to be decided with IRVINE MEADOW, Troon and Largs Thistle separated by just two points.

Meadow hold fourth spot and are in line for a move to the top-flight after finishing their league programme with a 1-0 win at RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN.

Ben Carson had an early penalty saved before making amends by heading in the winner after 25 minutes. However, Irvine could yet face the top flight’s bottom side Arthurlie in a play-off.

Fifth-placed TROON, who finished their season with a 7-0 win at LARKHALL, know they are in the play-offs but do not know who their opponents are yet.

Sixth-placed LARGS set up a final-day shoot-out by defeating hosts SHETTLESTO­N 3-0 with Graham Muir opening the scoring and Adam Scott notching a late double.

BEITH won their New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup third-round tie at SHOTTS BON ACCORD 4-1 with Andy Reid and Joe Bradley both hitting doubles. GLASGOW PERTHSHIRE took the honours in their Central League Cup quarter-final at ROSSVALE with a 2-0 success with Fraser Malcolm and Baboucar Mussa scoring their goals. BONNYRIGG are the East Super League champions after coming from two down to earn a draw with HILL OF BEATH which gave them the point that clinched the title.

Haws took the lead through a Darrin Wright penalty in 20 minutes and they looked like spoiling the Bonnyrigg celebratio­ns when Danny Watts added a second in 35 minutes. However, the visitors hit back through Kieran Mcgachie in 67 minutes and Lee Currie equalised from a free-kick in 81 minutes.

LINLITHGOW remain in second place after a 2-0 victory over CARNOUSTIE. Tommy Coyne gave them the lead in 39 minutes and Alan Urquhart secured the points with a second in the final minute.

PENICUIK had most of the play against LOCHEE UNITED but lacked sharpness in front of goal and lost 1-0 despite playing against 10 men for the last 20 minutes.

Stephen Mcnally gave the Bluebells the lead against the run of play in 27 minutes when he volleyed home.

However, despite doing most of the attacking for much of the game, the visitors couldn’t force an equaliser, even when Connor Birse was red-carded.

Stephen Scott netted a hat-trick in NEWONGRANG­E’S 4-2 win over BO’NESS. Dale O’hara was also on target from a penalty with Fraser Keast and Ryan Millar netting the Bo’ness goals.

TAYPORT look like finishing no worse than fourth top after a late equaliser saw them draw 1-1 with nearest rivals BLACKBURN UNITED. Matthew Campbell gave Blackburn the lead in 32 minutes but Alan Tulleth salvaged a point for the Fifers with an equaliser in 81 minutes.

DOWNFIELD took the lead through Jordan Timmons in 30 seconds in against HADDINGTON. Lee Cameron doubled their advantage in 15 minutes.

But the Hi Hi came storming back with goals from Andy Jones, in 26 minutes, and Robert Berry, in 32 minutes. It looked like both sides would settle for a draw but Terry Connel scored a dramatic last-minute winner for the Spiders.
