Beith champs on day of drama

-

BEITH snatched the Mcbookie. com Super Premier Division title from Auchinleck Talbot on the final day of the season with a 6-0 success over visitors GIRVAN.

The Bellsdale side knew a win would give them the best chance of being crowned Champions, and they raced into a four-goal halftime lead.

Andy Reid opened the scoring, Joe Bradley hit a double and Darren Christie also found the net. Jamie Cunningham and Ross Mcpherson scored after the break.

Scottish Junior Cup winners AUCHINLECK TALBOT let things slip to 2-2 after being two up at neighbours CUMNOCK. Auchinleck led through Gordon Pope’s goal at half-time and, when Dwayne Hyslop scored just before the hour mark, it looked like champagne corks would be popping for a second week running. However, Del Elspin pulled a goal back before James Hilton restored parity.

Beaten Scottish Cup finalists HURLFORD UNITED saw off visitors CLYDEBANK 6-3, despite goals from Steven Higgins and Jordan Shelvey having the Bankies winning. Doubles from Allan Jenkins and Ross Robertson, as well as a Ryan Caddis goal, had the hosts in command, with Paul Mckenzie wrapping things up after Higgins had grabbed his second.

ROB ROY enjoyed 2-0 win over GLENAFTON, with Connor Hughes and Lee Gallacher scoring for the Kirkintilloch hosts.

PETERSHILL are in the final of the Evening Times League Champions Cup after a 4-2 penalty-kick success over visitors ROSSVALE following a 1-1 draw. Steven Seaton’s goal was cancelled out by Alex Cassells’ equaliser for the hosts.

The Central League Cup quarter-final between RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN and visitors POLLOK was called off after a police incident close to The Celsius Stadium yesterday morning, with a request to move the game to Newlandsfield not accepted. LARGS THISTLE can secure promotion for the Super First Division today if they defeat hosts CUMBERNAULD UNITED, with a draw seeing them face Arthurlie in a play-off with Irvine Meadow stepping up.
