-

Murray made his comeback after an 11-month absence at Queen’s earlier this week, though any hopes of a deep run in a tournament he has won five times were ended when he was paired against Nick Kyrgios in the first round. The Scot fared unexpectedly well against Kyrgios, but lost a gruelling three-set match in two hours 39 minutes.

If Murray gets past three-time Grand Slam champ Wawrinka, British No. 1 Kyle Edmund awaits in the second round. Murrayisyettosay whether he will play at Wimbledon, which starts a week tomorrow.

Marin Cilic yesterday booked his spot in today’s showpiece after a 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (7/3) semi-final win over Murray’s conqueror Kyrgios.

Cilic will meet Novak Djokovic after the Serb reached his first final in 12 months. Djokovic overcame Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (7/3) 6-4.

In the Doubles, Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares booked their place in today’s final after seeing off top seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic in yesterday’s semi-final. The No. 4 seeds secured victory over the Austrian and the Croat 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-7.

They face Finn Henri Kontinen and Murray’s Australian former doubles John Peers, in this afternoon’s final. Meanwhile, defending champion Petra Kvitova cruised past Mihaela Buzarnescutosetupa final meeting with close friend Magdalena Rybarikova at the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham.

Fourth-seed Kvitova took little over an hour tosecurea6-36-2 success to reach her fifth final of the season having not dropped a set all week.
