Harris all about the bass from early age

-

Superstar DJ Calvin Harris has said he first got into music and his now- famous bass lines when he was just eight years old.

The Acceptable In The 80s star, 34, said he was given a small acoustic guitar for Christmas as a young boy growing up in Dumfries.

He said he painted the instrument black, and learned the bass line to Lithium by Nirvana.

Harris’ early musical influences are revealed in an interview with BBC Radio Scotland DJ Vic Galloway on The Story of Scottish Pop to be broadcast today.

The star is now one of the world’s richest DJS with estimates earlier this year saying he was worth

£ 140 million.

Harris said: “I started off listening to Nirvana when I was eight because my big brother loved them – Pearl Jam and stuff – when I didn’t really know if I liked it or not.

“I was just listening to it. “I got a wee acoustic guitar for my Christmas.

“It was the classical wood- coloured acoustic guitar and I used it to learn Lithium by Nirvana. That was the first little thing – the bass line to that.

“I painted my guitar black, which worried my mum slightly.

“That thing got me in to bass lines and any tune with a good bass line.”
