Andy is in a confident frame of mind

-

Andy Murray last night remained confident of taking to the court for his first match against Benoit Paire.

The two-time champion came through another practice session yesterday at the All-england Club as he continues to work his way back to full match fitness following hip surgery in January.

Murray said: “Unless in the next couple of days I wake up and don’t feel good, I’ll play. Through all of this, I have to view it very much day-by-day, just as a process.

“I’m practising at a high level, a high intensity, every day with some of the best players in the world. That’s really positive for me as part of getting better, to compete again.

“I’m just trying to right now keep building, practising with these guys, then hopefully pulling up each day and obviously competing in the matches, which went well I think the last couple of weeks, in Queen’s and Eastbourne.

“So far here that’s also been the case, which is good.” Meanwhile, Johanna Konta insists she is under no extra pressure at this year’s Wimbledon.

The British No. 1 rose to fourth in the world after reaching the semi-finals last year, but has struggled for form since and is seeded only 22.

The 27-year-old could even slip out of the world’s top 50 if she suffers an early exit at this year’s Championships.

But she said: “We’re very fortunate in tennis. We get to have an opportunity almost every week if you really want to perform.

“I’m treating this week as another opportunity for me to perform and for me to keep building on what I feel is a better and better level that I’ve been playing over the last number of weeks.

“I’m just looking forward to going out there, competing, and doing the best that I can.

“At the end of the day I’m only accountable to myself. To make sure that I do myself justice in the effort that I put in.

“That means going out there, doing the best that I can. To me that means that I fight for every single point, that I’m clear on the way I want to play and I keep the attention on my side of the court.”
