Just don’t bet on it!

She was there to have fun, to enjoy her tennis, as a new mother she had no expectations on the tennis court etc, etc.

That’s baloney. If Serena entered the French, she was aiming to win it.

The will-to-win in g re a t champions is intense.

So Serena will be looking to win at SW19. All the training she’s had to do to get back into shape, and all the time away from her baby will only make sense if she believes she can win another title.

W What a wonderful story it would make if Petra Kvitova won her third title. It is just over a year since Kvitova returned to tennis following the horrific stabbing incident that threatened her career, and she is looking close to her best.

On grass, Kvitova has perhaps the biggest weapon in the women’s game – that swinging left-handed serve.

Nobody will want Petra in their section of the draw.

Out of respect for her No. 1 ranking, I have to include Ssimona Halep in the mix. The question mark against the Ro m a n i a n concerns how she will react to winning her first Grand Slam title at the French.

After waiting so long for the breakthrough, will Halep take her foot off the pedal like so many other first-time winners?

Halep has to be at 100% to win Wimbledon because she doesn’t have a natural grass-court game. The same goes for Caroline Wozniacki, the Aussie Open champ.
