Celtic dominate, but let Bohemians snatch win

-

Hayes only made his comeback from a broken leg in midweek but lasted less than half of the latest encounter at their Austrian training camp.

The Irish winger started sharply but appeared to be taken off as a precaution as he was replaced by Calvin Miller. Brendan Rodgers picked a strong team for the second game of their camp and Celtic dominated the opening half but fell to a 35th-minute goal.

Hayes came close early on before James Forrest hit the bar following Ryan Christie’s cutback, and Scott Sinclair forced two saves from the Czech goalkeeper.

But Dominik Hasek netted with the aid of a deflection to give Bohemians the lead.

Rodgers made 10 substitutions at half-time with Scott Allan, Michael Johnstone and Euan Henderson among those brought on.

Celtic took time to adjust but Johnstone had some good moments which gave Allan a couple of chances.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers said:

“They were a good side and with the conditions, it was great for the fitness, which is the main objective.

“A lot of young players got good experience in the first team and our players are only a couple of weeks into pre-season so it’s not a time to worry about results.

“The players have worked very hard this week and we did a double session on Friday so they came into the game with their legs a bit heavy.”

Meanwhile, skipper Scott Brown believes the Hoops are in better shape than last year as they approach their latest Champions League qualifying campaign.

Celtic begin their quest to make it a hat-trick of group stage qualifications when they travel to Armenia to face Alashkert on July 10.

It is the first of what they hope will be four qualifying rounds with Rosenborg or Valur awaiting the winners in the second round.

Brown said: “Every single one of us has been there and done it.

“Last year we had six or seven days off and there wasn’t a lot of time for us to start running again.

“Our legs were a little bit lethargic coming right back into pre-season but now we are fresh and no excuses and have had a great week and a half in training.

“There’s four qualifying rounds for us, it’s going to be hard, but we believe we can go anywhere and get a result.”
