Itwas double duchess at Wimbledon yesterday as Centre Court welcomed two royal VIPS.

The duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge – Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton – were there to see the women’s final. Kate and Meghan were on their first engagement together without their husbands, Prince William and Prince Harry. They met some of the championships’ ball boys, ball girls, and junior players. When they passed across a walkway on the way to lunch, crowds gathered below cheered as Meghan waved back. She wore wide-legged cream trousers with a blue and white Ralph Lauren shirt, a nod to the designer who supplies the clothing for the ball kids, line judges and umpires at Wimbledon.

The newlywed – invited to SW19 by Kate – was also carrying a white wide-brimmed hat with black ribbon. Kate was sporting a Jenny Packham dress with nude suede heels and matching handbag.

Meghan and Kate took their seats in the royal box on Centre Court to watch the end of the epic semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. The pair seemed gripped as Serbian star Djokovic won a gruelling match over five hours and 16 minutes and which had continued from the previous night.

Following the men’s clash, seven-time champion Serena Williams lost to German Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-3.

After her semi-final win on Thursday, Williams hailed her “wonderful” friendship with Meghan and said she was looking forward to the duchess attending yesterday’s match. Two months ago the US tennis star took a front-row seat at Meghan’s wedding to the Duke of Sussex in Windsor. Today Kate and the Duke of Cambridge will watch the men’s singles final between Djokovic and Kevin Anderson from South Africa on the Centre Court.
