Edouard is leading the French revolution with his mate Moussa
Odsonne Edouard is thrilled to be part of a French revolution that is driving Celtic forward.
The 20-year-old looks like a player reborn after making a permanent move to Parkhead from Paris Saint-germain.
Last season he started the campaign slowly and often had to content with appearances from the bench.
But the striker was outstanding for Brendan Rodgers’ side as he scored against Armenian champions Alashkert.
French football is on a high after winning the World Cup in Russia last Sunday.
The Celtic manager believes Edouard, fellow-striker Moussa Dembele and midfielder Olivier Ntcham will one day star for Les Bleus.
It’s something the youngster is determined to do and believes he can get full international honours while playing in Scotland.
He said: “Of course, why not? But at the moment I don’t think about that.
“Right now I’m really focusing on my work at the club.
“I know I need to do a very good job and then, after that, we can look at other things.
“My main objective for the season is to win the three domestic trophies, like we did last season.
“I don’t think of anything else. “Getting to the group stage of the Champions League is also one of the main objectives.
“For me it’s very important because it’s so vital for the club.” Edouard is currently playing in a front two with Dembele and revelling in the role.
He went on: “I have a very good relationship with Moussa.
“We understand each other very well outside of football and also on the field.
“Of course, it helps to have a good friendship with your team-mate.
“I think that’s very important for the team.
“We enjoy the performances and take a lot of pleasure in playing a good game. “The coach has set us a style and a strategy. For me it’s all about helping with goals and helping by defending well.
“I am a still a young player and that means every year I will learn a lot. “Now that I have made it into the team, it’s important for me to keep that place.”
Celtic face Rosenborg at home on Wednesday in the first leg of their latest Champions League qualifier.
Leigh Griffiths remains on the injured list, unlikely to return to training until the end of the week.
It’s the same story for Jonny Hayes. Edouard, however, looks in the best physical condition of his life.
He will be a huge asset for Celtic if he can sustain his early season form in the months ahead.
He said: “In the holidays, and at the beginning of the season, I really prepared very well physically.
“I know it’s important to be really fit to be able to have a good performance individually and as a team.”
