Home defenders get

-

ARBROATH 2 ELGIN 0

Bobby Linn created the home side’s first serious chance midway through the first half, releasing Ryan Wallace, and his curling shot seemed destined for the top corner until Kyle Gourlay stretched to tip over the bar. Elgin responded and Colin Hamilton did well to block a Scott Miller shot, while Lichties keeper Darren Jamieson had to be alert to keep City at bay.

Arbroath broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, defender Hamilton ghosting into the six-yard box to nod home.

Shortly after, an Elgin attack ended with the visitors claiming the ball had crossed the Arbroath line, but referee Graham Beaton allowed play to continue.

The Red Lichties doubled their advantage nine minutes from the end when another defender, Tom O’brien, got on the end of a corner to slot home.

Little came close to a third for Dick Campbell’s side, but he hit the post, before Gavin Swankie hit the net, but was offside.

MORTON 2 STENHOUSEMUIR 0

Morton opened the scoring just after the half-hour when Michael Tidser sent Ross Maclean clear and the on-loan winger rounded visiting keeper Graeme Smith before sliding the ball home. The Cappielow men doubled their lead just before the break when Tidser again acted provider, this time crossing for Bob Mchugh to head home.
