My four-year-old grandson dresses like a girl and says he wants to be a girl. It is upsetting his family. Will he grow out of this?

It is common for children to want to explore different identities both in life and as part of role play. Often it’s temporary, but sometimes it’s something more permanent. It would be helpful for the family to discuss this openly and explore reasons why it causing upset.

I’ve stopped smoking after recovering from pneumonia last year. Will a flu jab help me later this year?

Flu jags are generally available on the NHS for those over 65 and people who have certain chronic long term conditions. If you don’t fall into these categories then they are available from your local pharmacy, so ask if you think it would help. If you have been prone to pneumonia then it may not be a bad idea to have yourself protected.

I was told I have Swimmer’s Ear, which is odd as I can’t swim. What is it?

Swimmer’s Ear is another term for an infection called otitis externa. This affects the ear canal. It is called Swimmer’s Ear because it often develops after people have been swimming and the ears have not dried. It can be treated with a spray.
