Early goals then Vale withstand pressure

-

Deveronvale 2 BONNYRIGG rose 1

Deveronvale advanced to the second round of the Scottish Cup with a hard-earned victory over a very good Bonnyrigg, who controlled long spells of the game.

Vale went ahead after 10 minutes when Grant Noble curled home an effort from 22 yards.

Nine minutes later, Sam Robertson made it two, shooting through the keeper’s legs.

Rose pulled one back after 22 minutes with a Kyle Wilson strike, but, despite having the lion’s share of the play, they could not breach the outstanding Vale defence.

WICK 1 AUCHINLECK talb 2

A sizeable Auchinleck contingent made the long journey north from Ayrshire and they were rewarded with a controlled performance, taking the lead after 37 minutes when Jamie Glasgow took advantage of a Sean Mccarthy fumble to lob the visitors in front.

Davie Allan came close to equalising for Wick just before the break when he drilled a shot just wide after being picked out by Richard Macadie.

The hosts did level 10 minutes into the second half when Jack Halliday sidefooted home from six yards out.

Auchinleck responded superbly to that setback and went ahead two minutes later when the ball was played along the edge of the box for Stephen Wilson to smash home an unstoppable shot.

gala FAIRYDEAN rovers 5 lossiemouth 0

The Fairies were too strong for the Highland League side and were three goals up after half-an-hour.

Ruari Paton was their hero with a fine hat-trick after hitting two goals in the first five minutes.

Thomas Patterson got a third in the 29th minute and, in the 74th minute, Paton went through to complete his hat-trick.

Then, just on the final whistle, Dale Baxter piled on the agony with a shot from 10 yards.

Scott Mclaughlin destroyed Thistle’s cup chances with a hattrick in a devastating eight-minute spell.

He fired Edu into a 16th-minute lead and then, four minutes later, shocked Thistle with a second. He then completed his hat-trick in the 24th minute.

The Highland League side tried hard after the interval and they were rewarded when Steven Ross pulled one back.

Brora 4 turriff 3

Brora were hot favourites to progress from this game, but they had to come back from 3-1 down in the second half to squeeze past Turriff.

Kyle Macleod’s solitary first-half strike gave the supporters present little indication of what was to follow.

Second-half goals from Keir Smith, David Ross and Stuart Taylor stunned the Dudgeon Park contingent, but a double from Craig Campbell levelled things up before player-manager Steven Mackay volleyed home the winner.

NAIRN County 1 BEITH Jr 3

The Junior outfit had just too much for the Wee County.

Darren Christie netted with a 22-yard effort eight minutes before half-time, but it was a Connor Mcglinchey free-kick that provided the crucial cushion.

Nairn reduced the deficit from a penalty through Greg Main, but, despite a couple of good chances, they were unable to level and Christie netted the clincher with three minutes to go.

Forres MECHANICS 2 CIVIL service strollers 2

On paper, this had a strong claim to be the tie of the round and it lived up to that billing.

The Lowland League side got their noses in front on the quarter-hour with Robbie Laird heading home from six yards.

Forres’ first-half pressure was rewarded by a thumping leveller from Allan Pollock, who added a second wonder goal with a Di Canio-esque hitch-kick early in the second half.

With 20 seconds left, David Churchill broke through to send this one to a replay.

rothes 4 CLACHNACUDDIN 0

Jaime Wilson opened the scoring early in the first half, but it took an Alasdair Stark goal two minutes into the second half to break the Lilywhites resistance.

Former Clach player Scott Davidson added a third before Wilson netted his second.

strathspey thistle 0 Coldstream 2

Strathspey Thistle had the better of the first half, but found themselves a goal behind at the break after Phil Bright made a great run to the near post and placed the ball beyond Michael Maccallum.

Bright added a second in the 80th minute when he was in the right place at the right time to knock home a rebound.

Huntly 1 east stirling 4

A second-half Ross Allum double helped East Stirlingshire dump Huntly out of the competition.

Both sides had netted in a fairly even first half, Drew Ramsey opening the scoring on 23 minutes, with Zander Jack netting a rare goal 11 minutes later. Andy Rodgers slotted home a penalty five minutes after the turnaround, then goals from Allam on the hour and 15 minutes later eased Shire through.

Blair Johnston saw red for picking up a second yellow late on.

Confusion reigned post-match with news that Rodgers was listed by the SFA as having a one-match suspension from 2016, so in theory was ineligible for this game.

But he had missed Shire’s tie with Formartine last season.

linlithgow rose 3 Fort william 0

Linlithgow made no mistake against Fort William and eventually cruised to a 3-0 win after a goalless first half. Tommy Coyne gave them the lead, then two goals in the last three minutes from Robert Sloan and Kyle Turnbull sealed the victory.
