nnPaul and Angie Curtis will finally be able to cook hot meals at home for the first time in almost six months, thanks to Raw Deal.

The couple, from Aberlour, Moray, bought an electric Belling cooker from Co-op Electrical in March, but had nothing but trouble with it.

In May, the oven fan was replaced after it seized, but then the cooker kept tripping out and it would stop working all together.

Repair engineers thought that the fault lay with two faulty neon display lights.

But Paul, 65, who has retired from the Royal Engineers, said that the issue still wasn’t fixed months later. “We had taken out an extended warranty,” he said. “But many very long phone calls to the Co-op and the warranty company Pacifica were getting me nowhere.

“The replacement lights never arrived and we couldn’t use the cooker because the fuses kept blowing every time we switched it on.

“I also couldn’t understand why it was taking so long to get new lights ordered up for us because I quickly found the same ones for sale on ebay for £4.95 each – including free delivery.

“It was very inconvenient, but fortunately it was the summer, so we didn’t need to make hot meals all the time.”

In frustration, Paul wrote to Raw Deal, and we asked the Co-op to investigate.

As a result, the couple has been refunded the £279 they paid for the cooker and are now shopping around for a replacement.

“We would like to thank Raw Deal for stepping in and hurrying this along,” Paul said.

“I was getting nowhere with it and with winter coming in, at least we can now make ourselves hot dinners.”
