I’m no telltale, but I do I love Informer

▼ INFORMER, BBC1

The Beeb have been making efforts to earn our licence fees over the past few months, serving up thrillers and dramas that have had us glued to our screens in record numbers. The hugely successful Bodyguard, starring Scot Richard Madden, pulled in 10.4 million viewers for its tense final episode, while Jenna Coleman’s heart-wrenching portrayal in The Cry peaked to an audience of six million. And so when BBC1’S latest thriller, Informer, hit our screens, I was curious to see whether the series could live up to the hype.

It’s not like the writers gave themselves an easy time of it – tackling the themes of terrorism, Islamophobia, gangs and PTSD doesn’t exactly provide much room for complacency.

But after watching the second instalment on Tuesday I found myself becoming drawn into the world of our anti-hero Raza (newcomer Nabhaan Rizwan) as he himself is pulled deeper into his role as an informer.

It doesn’t hurt that the series boasts a stellar cast. Playing the troubled cop with a dodgy past, Paddy Considine is the perfect mix of hard edges and deeply buried emotions, and you’re never quite sure of his motive. After only two episodes of action, I’ll definitely be back next week for more.

▼ GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, CHANNEL 4

After failing to rise to the occasion during patisserie week lovely Briony was the next baker to get the boot, narrowly missing out on a place in the final alongside Rahul, Ruby and Kim-joy.

It’s a real shame the full-time mum didn’t make it through, but I would put money on her bubbly nature landing her a book deal before too long.

After all, we all know it’s more personality than pastry that marks the true success of a Bake Off contestant.
