Late drama with home winnner and red card

-

East Fife came storming back in the second 45 minutes to pick up a deserved Kingdom derby win.

Raith drew first blood, with Liam Buchanan racing clear on Brett Long’s goal and calmly beating the Fife keeper.

East Fife responded well and were almost level within a few minutes when Ross Davidson narrowly missed out on connecting with a Liam Watt cross.

Things began to get heated towards the end of the first half, with Raith boss Mcglynn sent to the stand after taking his protests over a Ross Matthews booking a step too far.

East Fife had a few chances early in the second half to pull level, but found Raith keeper Robbie Thomson in top form.

He pulled off a terrific double save from Ross Davidson and Mark Docherty, before then denying Aaron Dunsmore. However, he was beaten when former Raith striker Kevin Smith turned in a Scott Agnew corner.

And the hosts capped off a remarkable turn around in time added when Aaron Dunsmore lashed home from 18 yards. There was to be even more late drama, with Long sent off following his celebrations in front of the Raith support.

Brechin 4 Forfar 0 Brechin gave new manager Barry Smith a winning start with a trouncing of Forfar.

Forfar had a chance to take the lead in 23 minutes when a Dylan Easton cross was handled by Aron Lynas. Easton took the penalty, but Connor Brennan saved. Brechin took the lead when Andy Jackson beat a defender inside the box and drilled home a low shot.

Soon after, a lovely through ball from Calum Tapping picked out Jackson and he smashed home a first-time effort.

Just a minute later, Jackson turned provider when he crossed for Lynas to net from close range.

In the second half, Forfar’s Dale Hilson hit the bar, but Brechin wrapped things up with a fourth goal when Dougie Hill’s header struck the bar and Cameron Blues tapped home the rebound.

arbroath 2 Montrose 0 Danny Denholm put the hosts ahead at the break with a sweetly-struck 15-yarder. Montrose then pinned Dick Campbell’s men back for long spells, but couldn’t trouble home keeper Darren Jamieson.

Late on, Sean Dillon gave the ball away with a poorly-aimed header, and Michael Mckenna’s low drive was parried by Montrose keeper Jordan Millar. Steven Doris, though, sneaked in at the back post to squeeze home the second.

stranraer 1 airdrie 2 Just 12 minutes were on the clock when former Stranraer man Gallagher returned to haunt his old club. Max Currie pulled off a stunning point-blank save from Wilkie, but the ball fell kindly to Gallagher, who needed no second invitation to rifle home from 12 yards.

It was near one-way traffic, with the Diamonds almost doubling their lead nine minutes later. Dale Carrick’s header had Currie scrambling, but the goalkeeper just managed to get a hand to the ball and push it onto the post.

Then, eight minutes before the break, Airdrie had the ball in the net for a second time. Darryl Duffy’s clever backheel was perfect for Carrick, but the offside flag was raised to deny him.

It looked game over just three minutes after the restart when Wilkie bundled home from close range after indecision in the Stranraer defence.

However, to the home side’s credit, they fought back and found a way back into the tie. Birthday boy Kyle Turner got on the end of Luke Donnelly’s through ball and slotted home.

And Airdrie were left hanging on when Donnelly found a yard of space, only to see his curling shot clip the post.

dumbarton 2 stenhousemuir 1 Dumbarton took the lead on 22 minutes, Ross Forbes converting a penalty after Mark Ferry handled Dom Thomas’ shot from the edge of the area.

However, 10 minutes later, another handling offence cost The Sons. Keeper Chris Smith punched what looked a basic cross and Cammy Ballantyne’s efforts to clear resulted in a handball. Mcguigan punished it by scoring the penalty.

The hosts started the second half brightly and the winner came when Dom Thomas hit a fantastic 25-yard effort into the net – his third goal already for the club he only joined on loan from Kilmarnock last month.
