Mcinally: Frustration over the mistakes

- By Alan Shaw SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Stuart Mcinally fronted-up after yesterday’s defeat, just as he did against a brutal Irish pack.

The hooker admitted: “There’s huge frustration among the players about the mistakes we made. The game plan was the right one and we just didn’t execute it. “There was a huge amounted of effort that went into the game but ultimately we were just too inaccurate in our attack and Ireland defended really well and we couldn’t break them down. “I thought they played really well, they took their chances and defended really well which was enough.

“We like to attack but we weren’t as accurate as we’d like to be so we were the masters of our own downfall there.

“We need to look at that and make sure we’re better in Paris in a couple of weeks.”

Just as Ireland knew they had to win at BT Murrayfield to have any hope of defending their Six Nations title, Scotland now know they must win at the Stade de France – and subdue a gargantuan France pack – if they are to keep alive their own tilt at the championship.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge, a similar challenge in terms of the physicality they’ll bring,” said Mcinally. “They’re big, heavy forwards but I’ve had experience playing against Toulon and Montpellier this year.

“I take great confidence from those Edinburgh games when we’ve rucked against a big, big pack and got it right and that gives me confidence in being able to go out there and do it.

“Glasgow have done it to Lyon, too, so there certainly won’t be any fear of going over there to keep our championship hopes alive. We need to win so there won’t be any lack of intensity.”
