Brendan aims to be a musician and a linguist
Brendan Rodgers is already a Pied Piper to his Celtic players.
But the Hoops boss wishes he could get the whole world dancing to his tune.
Already a fluent Spanish speaker, the Celts gaffer is currently learning French in a bid to further boost his managerial arsenal.
His skills will come in handy in deciphering the shouts from the opposing bench during the Bhoys’ Europa League clash with Valencia on Thursday.
But in an ideal world, Rodgers would be able to understand opponents from anywhere in the world – then invite them into his office for a post-match jam session.
“If I could do two things in the world, I’d speak every language and I would play every musical instrument,” he said. “Why? It’s the ability to communicate. “As you grow older, you understand communication is so important.
“It’s not perfect by any means, but when I set out (to learn Spanish) it was to be able to coach in the language and to be able to speak and greet.
“I always think if you speak to someone in their second language, you speak to their head. If you speak in their first you speak to their heart.
“I’ve always tried to let players see I try to communicate.”
Rodgers started learning Spanish when he was with Reading, but kicked on towards fluency after taking one-toone lessons with former tennis star Jamie Delgado’s dad, Julio.
For Valencia, that means there will be no language barrier between the respective dug-outs during the Europa League tie.
And in the future – along with Rodgers’ current efforts to pick up French – it could lead to a spell managing on the Continent for the ambitious Hoops boss.
“I’d like to manage abroad. I’d like to get out of my comfort zone at some point over the next 20 years,” he said. “Spain is a country I’ve enjoyed learning the culture of.
“It’s a country I’ve loved going to and having that connection with the people. I think they appreciate when you can meet halfway.”
“Speaking the language opens up South America too.”
