Gerrard is seething over more citings

- By Brian Fowlie sport@sundaypost.com

Yet another refereeing controversy emerged in the fallout of the clash between Kilmarnock and Rangers.

Killie midfielder Alan Power is the latest player facing claims that he should be cited by the SFA compliance officer. The Irishman was booked by referee Alan Muir for a high boot in the direction of Ryan Jack that left his opponent dazed.

Rangers keeper Allan Mcgregor faces an SFA hearing on Tuesday after being charged with violent conduct for a kick at Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson.

His club are contesting a two-match ban.

Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard, who could be without the goalie for the cup replay, says he will be watching to see if anyone is cited from yesterday’s 0-0 draw.

He said: “Could Kilmarnock have gone down to 10 men? No comment.

“I don’t know who points the citings out – but I’ll be interested to see what happens.

“Alfredo Morelos will serve his punishment.

“In terms of Mcgregor, you know what we’re doing with that.

“Every manager is looking for consistency but I’ve got nothing else to say.”

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday felt Power should have been sent off.

He said: “If you watch it back, and I’ve got the best view on the pitch, I’m just five, six yards away from it – and it’s a red card. It’s as simple as that.

“I don’t think it’s intent but it’s endangering an opponent.

“That’s clear, there’s no grey area in that. I agree, he certainly didn’t mean it.” Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke found it hard to argue about the penalty given against Kirk Broadfoot early in the match.

He said: “I thought Kirk was a bit unlucky. It was a great block but he happened to roll on the ball so I can understand why Alan Muir gave it. No big complaints.

“It was a good cup tie with two fully committed teams.

“Obviously we got the break with the penalty save but we also missed a couple of big chances in a goalmouth scramble in the first half.

“We defended well from the front for our clean sheet, which is always difficult against good teams.”

Clarke also did his best to play down talk of a feud with Steven Gerrard.

The Rangers manager had accused Clarke of lacking class when he made comments that were seen as referring to Jermain Defoe going down easily to win a penalty.

He said: “I’ll have a little chat with him like I do with all the managers who come here. it’s not about clearing the air or anything.”
