Caixinha in hot water following ladies ‘skirt’ outburst

Pedro Caixinha has stirred up a hornet’s nest in his adopted country.

The former Rangers manager, whose signing of Alfredo Morelos was one of his few successes in the transfer market, is under fire in Mexico for a sexist comment about women’s football. The Portuguese coach won the Mexican Cup with Cruz Azul last season before losing a league play-off Final.

But he’s under pressure to apologise after he was severely criticised the ladies’ game. Caixinha was asked about his opinion on the future of the Liga MX Femenil, the women’s league which has been the subject of much debate in Mexican football.

He stopped the question short by stating: “I don’t play with skirts” before walking out. His own club have a woman’s team, and Caixinha has come under pressure to back down in Mexico for his words.

Caixinha was given a formal warning last week by his own sports director, Ricardo Pelaez, after he lost the plot with journalist­s at a press conference, and swore at them.

Pelaez said: “I watched the press conference again, and have spoken to Pedro.

“There won’t be a repeat of this incident, I can assure you.

“Pedro understand­s he cannot lose his head again at a press conference because you lose respect and composure.

“He’s been warned about his conduct after matches.”

Caixinha is also set to face another fine from the Mexican FA for breaking their Code of Ethics by abusing the media. He managed Rangers for a
