Four wins in a row as Nairn play to the Max

-

NAIRN County 1 Brora rangers 0

A solitary first-half counter from Max Ewan gave Nairn the points against visiting Brora Rangers – their fourth straight victory.

Brora almost took an early lead when Gavin Morrison smacked the ball off the underside of the bar

ylan Maclean pulled off a great save to deny Jordon Macrae as the visitors pushed for the opener.

Brora keeper Joe Malin then did well to block a Liam Shewan shot, but there was nothing he could do when Max Ewan blasted home from 25 yards.

At the other end, Ali Macdonald smacked a shot off the upright.

However, it took another fine stop from Malin, just before the break, to keep the score down and deny Ewing his second of the afternoon.

The visitors had the bulk of the possession in the second half, but County almost doubled their lead through Tom Maclennan when his rasping shot came off the underside of the bar.

But Brora kept up the pressure and Scott Davidson sent a header just wide, before Maclean saved well to deny Martin Maclean.

WICK academy 1 BUCKIE thistle 2

Buckie Thistle recovered from the loss of an early goal to beat Wick Academy and continue their good start to the season.

Richard Macadie had gotten the injury-ravaged hosts off to the perfect start when he slotted in after just five minutes.

But Wick couldn’t maintain their fast start and Buckie equalised midway through the first half thanks to Andrew Macaskill’s first goal of the season.

The Scorries’ injury problems continued when captain Alan Farquhar was forced off after 32 minutes, although Alan Hughes did come close to giving Wick the lead again when he dragged his close-range shot wide after being found by Gordon Macnab.

The Jags always looked the likelier to win the game, though, and grabbed the winning goal 18 minutes from time when former Brora Rangers striker Scott Graham evaded his marker to give Buckie a fourth win of the season.

huntly 1 rothes 3

Despite the win, Rothes parted company with manager Steve Macdonald after the match with the midweek loss to Fort William still stinging.

Former Speysider Ash Ballam headed into his own goal on his Huntly debut.

Within a minute, Chris Herd turned Nathan Meres corner home at the back post at the other end.

Jack Maley powered home Rothes’ second five minutes before half-time, then Steven Anderson beat the offside trap before firing high into the net on the hour mark.

Fraserburgh 6 Fort william 3

This incredible game began with a cool piece of finishing, the host side’s Sean Butcher chesting home Paul Young’s 20th-minute cross. Roddy Kennedy cancelled that one out with a sidefoot finish from Gabriel Hastings’ centre, but Paul Campbell’s thumping volley into the top corner a minute later put the Broch back in front. Butcher grabbed his second before Fort’s Ross Gunn’s thumping free-kick ended the half in style.

Fraserburgh scored three in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Campbell scored from open play, then the penalty spot to complete his hat trick, a feat matched by Butcher.

Jordan Andrew scored a consolation for Fort.

Keith 2 turriff united 1

Dean Donaldson’s men came from behind to beat Turriff thanks to a pair of super subs.

The visitors had taken a halftime lead from the penalty spot, with former Maroon Michael Ewen calmly converting after a defensive handball in the area.

Keith pressed forward in the second half and got their just rewards.

Grant Thomson rose to head home from a corner with 73 minutes on the clock.

Three minutes later, Scott Gray scored the winner in a crowded area with a cool finish.

Formartine united Clachnacuddin 1

Scott Lisle’s stock continues to rise as the summer signing from Strathspey’s hat-trick helped move Formartine into a five-way tie for second place.

Lisle netted almost exactly every 25 minutes, but it was Gary Mcgowan’s goal, the third of the game, just after the hour that truly killed off the Lilywhites. Garry Wood netted the fourth before Lisle’s neat finish completed a nap hand.

The only disappointment for the home side was that Scott Dunn denied them a clean sheet.

Forres MECHANICS 7 strathspey thistle 1

Forres picked up their first points of the season in some style. Andy Macrae set up Allan Macphee for a simple tap-in as the tone was set early on. Macphee slotted home his second, then it was Macrae’s turn to profit from unselfish team play.

There was no let-up after the break, with Stuart Soane and Callum Howarth also finding the target.

Scott Morrison pulled one back with a quality strike before the on-fire Macphee scored his third, then fourth.

lossiemouth 0 Inverurie locos 2

Two goals in a three-minute burst either side of the hour mark saw Inverurie Locos rack up a fourth successive win.

With Lossie working hard to keep the Locos out, it took a setpiece to provide the opener, a corner-kick being met by Mark Souter who headed past Stewart Black.

The Lossie keeper did well to save from Sam Burnett soon after, but the youngster followed in to net the rebound to clinch victory.
