First Clyde win knocks Bairns off the top perch

-

Clyde 1 Falkirk 0

Lamont (34)

Clyde secured their first League 1 win as title favourites Falkirk were knocked from their perch at the top. The Bairns might have had an early lead when Declan Mcmanus pounced on a loose ball and fed Charlie Telfer, who fired wide from a good position.

Telfer threatened again with a shot from range which was well saved by David Mitchell, who then kept out a netbound Gregor Buchanan header.

Clyde forced their way into it and David Goodwillie shot narrowly wide and had another effort blocked.

The Bully Wee broke the deadlock through Mark Lamont, who was on hand to convert Goodwillie’s cutback. Connor Sammon squandered a chance to level by firing too close to Mitchell.

Late on, Goodwillie’s shot was comfortably held by Cammy Bell.

east Fife 4 airdrieonians 1

East Fife – Davidson (8), Watt (23), Dunsmore (56), Agnew (71); Airdrieonians – Gallacher (90)

East Fife had an early chance to break the deadlock with an Anton Dowds effort six yards from goal, but the scrambling defence blocked his effort.

East Fife grabbed the lead when the visitors gifted possession to Ross Davidson 20 yards from goal and the midfielder fired beyond David Hutton. The hosts got the second goal when Liam Watt cut into the box and curled a terrific effort past Hutton.

The Methil men were on easy street on 56 minutes when Aaron Dunsmore finished off a sweeping move up the park. Scott Agnew grabbed No. 4 for the Fifers with a finish from 18 yards.

In time added, sub Calum Gallagher netted a late counter for the visitors.

Leitch (48)

Peterhead 1 Forfar athletic 0

Peterhead were first to work the opposing keeper, a left-wing cross from Aiden Smith finding the head of captain Rory Mcallister, but his 10-yard header went straight at Marc Mccallum.

Soon after, Mccallum saved well from another header, this time from defender Mick Dunlop after a Jack Leitch corner.

It was Leitch again after 21 minutes, this time with a rasping low drive from 20 yards that Mccallum did really well to get a strong hand to diving to his right.

The second half started with a bang with the Blue Toon taking a 48th-minute lead when Cameron Eadie’s cross went right to the forehead of Jack Leitch to nod the opener from inside the six-yard box.

Forfar should have levelled when Andy Jackson’s cross from the right put the ball on a plate for Kirkpatrick, but he headed wide to the dismay of the travelling supporters

raith rovers 3 Montrose 0

Bowie (80), Gullan (84), Trialist (90)

Montrose keeper Allan Fleming was called into action early after he reacted well to block a Grant Anderson shot. Fleming then was quick to close down Bowie when the striker had a glimpse of goal.

Montrose had their chances and David Mcgurn did well to save from Josh Skelly. Graham Webster then should have done better when he had a free header, but sent it over the top.

Brad Spencer had a chance for Raith before the break, but could not keep his shot down and Fleming was untroubled.

Kieron Bowie finally broke the deadlock in 80 minutes when he was clean through on goal and he kept his cool to beat Fleming.

New signing Jamie Gullan made sure of victory with a stunning 25-yard shot to leave the keeper helpless, before Trialist added the third goal for Rovers in injury-time.

dumbarton 3 stranraer 1

Dumbarton – Layne (25, 77), Tumilty (64); Stranraer – Murphy (20)

Dumbarton started well, but neither Reghan Tumilty nor his fellow-defender Morgyn Neill could find the target with decent efforts.

Neill gave away the free-kick that led to the opening goal, his push 20 yards out being penalised and Leon Murphy stepping up to score. Dumbarton immediately equalised when PJ Crossan’s ball into the area caused a scramble and Isaac Layne finished rom six yards.

The rest of the first half meandered along, but Sons restarted strongly in the second period, with Conor Scullion just missing the target at full stretch.

On 64 minutes, Layne broke clear and played the ball back for Tumilty to roll the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.

And 13 minutes after that, Layne squeezed home his second of the afternoon after a corner was only partly cleared.

Stranraer never gave up, though, and sub James Hilton forced two late saves from home keeper Conor Brennan, but the match was well won by Dumbarton.
