The Sunday Post (Inverness)

Going out Restaurant of the week

Rabble, 55a Frederick Street, Edinburgh

-

Location

Just a 10-minute walk from Waverley train station, the entrance to the basement eatery is down a few steps and through bright, welcoming glass doors.

First impressions

The busy dining area has a buzzing atmosphere, with beautiful flowers and foliage covering the ceiling. The feeling of summer, even if it’s raining.

Service

Our waitress was attentive, friendly and helpful. Impeccable.

Menu

Covering breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and snacks, there’s something for everyone on the fresh, locally-sourced menu. The kitchen specialises in cooking meat and fish over a charcoalfired Robata grill, so barbecue lovers will be in heaven.

Taste

Our first starter was asparagus served with a crispy duck egg and Parmesan. The soft yolk could have been runnier, but the entire dish was delicious regardless. Next was a vegan cauliflower steak with korma sauce, pomegranate seeds, coconut, almonds, sultanas, and a crumb topping. The “steak” had just the right amount of crunch – perfection. For our mains, we were served a vegan Moving Mountains burger with triple-cooked chips, and a huge plate of nachos. Both dishes were freshly cooked and the portions were ample. There was certainly no room for dessert!

Ambience

Relaxed, friendly. The kind of place that would impress family, first dates and even your granny.

Price

Reasonable for the quality and great surroundings. Starters range from £5 to £8 and mains from £10 for salad to £28 for a speciality steak.

Something special

The cocktail list has an impressive offering - hello, weekend plans.

Toilets

Chic, stylish, clean. No complaints.
