We resolve 18-month energy row

-

Ross Sinclair is celebrating the end of an 18-month dispute with his former energy supplier – and he is also £361 better off.

Ross, from Cullen, Aberdeenshire, was frustrated when trying to shift the gas and electricity supply for his seafront holiday home away from Scottish Power.

Despite following procedures to switch to another company, he kept receiving confusing bills for varying amounts.

He also couldn’t change his supplier as Scottish Power insisted he was still in debit with them after a gas prepayment meter was replaced at the cottage in February 2018.

The final straw came when Ross received a letter from a debt collection agency stating he had an unpaid energy bill for £1,127.

“I had serious concerns over the continuity of the power supply for our holiday cottage and my credit rating,” he said.

At the end of his tether, he contacted Raw Deal and we asked Scottish Power to investigate.

The company soon wiped £361 off his bill and his swap to Octopus Energy has finally gone through.

Scottish Power said: “We have apologised for any inconvenience this matter has caused.

“We had billed Mr Sinclair’s gas and electricity separately due to there being a gas prepayment meter on the site initially. “The account had accrued a large balance due to a service charge being applied although no gas was being used.

“As a gesture of goodwill we have removed the service charges and the remaining balance has been paid in full by Mr Sinclair.”

Ross said he was grateful to Raw Deal for stepping in.

He said: “Without your contact I would probably still be no better off.”
