The Sunday Post (Inverness)

Restaurant of the week

The Ivy, 106 Buchanan Street, Glasgow

-

Location

Right in the heart of the city.

First impressions

A vibrant venue filled with bold and colourful prints and pendant lighting, it is a pleasure to be here, even before you’ve tasted the food. Stylish – and stunning.

Service

We’re shown to our table by beautifully dressed front of house staff, then introduced to our waitress. The suggestion of a cold glass of champagne while we perused the menu couldn’t have been more welcome on a warm day.

Menu

Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks, there’s a menu for everything. The All-day menu has a great range of sandwiches and salads for a lighter bite – or bigger dishes ranging from home comforts like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie to something a little fancier like lobster linguine.

Taste

The haggis bon bon starter tasted amazing, especially dipped in the sharp whisky and mustard sauce. The crispy duck salad was also superb. For mains, we plumped for the chicken Milanese which really tickled the taste buds, and a fillet steak with chunky chips, which were cooked to perfection. The mini chocolate truffles for dessert were to die for.

Ambience

Calm and relaxed – but with a real buzz about the place. And if you run out of chat the stunning surroundings and décor will provide plenty to look at.

Something special

Try the chocolate bombe for dessert. It’s quite a spectacle watching it melt when the hot caramel sauce is poured on.

Price

Our bill came in at about £120 for two with a few drinks.

Toilets

Simply beautiful with floral walls – and pink loos. Make sure you take your camera when you spend a penny. You’ll want a selfie!
