Whole new Boll game as expat football coach hits the red carpet
Football coach Davie Robertson has revealed his starring role in an acclaimed fly- on- the- wall documentary is getting the Bollywood treatment.
The former Aberdeen and Rangers defender is jetting back from India to be at the Scottish Baftas tonight when the Real Kashmir FC series is up for two awards.
And Robertson, who coaches the club in the disputed region, said the series screened on BBC Scotland has now attracted interest from film- makers in India. He said: “The Bollywood company met us earlier this year in Mumbai. They’ve been in talks and have already been around the club a lot. It will either be a film or as a Netflix- style series. I’m not sure who will be playing me, though!”
Robertson will join stars – including Martin Compston, Peter Mullan, Kate Dickie and Jack Lowden – at the event in Glasgow tonight.
BBC mini- series The Cry and country music film Wild Rose lead the list of nominations with three each, while box- office hit Stan & Ollie, coming- of age movie Beats, drama series The Victim and Real Kashmir FC have all received two nominations. Best Actress nominees include Jenna Coleman for The Cry, Kelly Macdonald for The Victim and Morven Christie for The Bay. Former soap star Alex Ferns is nominated for his role as a miner in Sky’s Chernobyl. while other films and shows up for a Bafta include Mary Queen of Scots, Bodyguard and Outlaw King.
Hosted by Edith Bowman, the ceremony will include special awards to the cast of Still Game and script supervisor Pat Rambaut, whose work includes Local Hero.
Jude Maclaverty, director of Bafta Scotland, said: “We are delighted to say entries in 2019 were up almost 50% .”
