Emery knows he has to get Arsenal firing

-

Unai Emery insists he understands the responsibility on his shoulders to deliver success at Arsenal after his side were jeered off the pitch following a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Wolves.

The Gunners have won just two of their past nine Premier League games and let a lead slip for the third time in a week as Raul Jimenez’s header cancelled out Pierre-emerick Aubameyang’s 50th Arsenal opener.

Asked after the game if he felt his position was under threat, Emery replied: “I feel every time my responsibility to work and to come back from the result with the next matches.”

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo wants more from his players, adding: “We must change the cycle. We must try to harm first.”

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce said his could have won by a bigger margin than their 3-2 success over West Ham United. Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Jonjo Shelvey had the Magpies 3-0 up inside an hour, before Fabian Balbuena and Robert Snodgrass made the scoreline respectable late on.

“It could, and should, have been four or five, that would have been a true reflection with the chances we had,” said Newcastle manager Steve Bruce. Opposite number Manuel Pellegrini added: “I do not understand why we played so, so bad.”

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is not getting carried away by his side’s lofty position.

The Blades climbed up to sixth place with an impressive 3-0 victory against Burnley at Bramall Lane, thanks to John Lundstram’s double and a further goal from John Fleck.

Wilder was not concerned with where his team are in the standings, saying: “I’ve not looked at the league table and I won’t do, I’ll only assess the season at the death. It’s an accumulation of points for us.”

Burnley boss Sean Dyche laid into his side, saying: “The first half was unacceptable, it’s as simple as that. Too many players were way off the mark.”

Graham Potter was more than satisfied after Brighton beat struggling Norwich City 2-0, with goals from sub Leandro Trossard and Shane Duffy.

“I’m delighted for the three points, delighted for the players,” he said. “It was a difficult match against a team that attacks well.”

Norwich have lost five of their past six and remain second from bottom and boss Daniel Farke said: “It was a deserved win for Brighton.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says VAR is “not in a great place” after more controversy in his side’s 2-1 victory at winless Watford, whose awful 11-game run equates to a new club record.

Goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic won it for the Blues, with Gerard Deulofeu replying with a late penalty, after referee Anthony Taylor’s original decision had been overturned.

Lampard said: “We are going to be tossing a coin every week to see what decisions you get.”
