Gallagher gets nod for stoppage-time winner

-

Raith started on the front foot and Kieron Bowie had an early chance, but his shot was well saved by Max Currie.

Jamie Gullan then had a decent attempt from outside the area, but his shot slipped wide of the post, then Michael Miller saw his shot fly wide. The hosts made the breakthrough in the final minute of the first half when Gullan raced clear of the Stranraer defence and rounded Currie to score.

Four minutes into the second half, John Baird made it 2-0 with a low shot.

There was no way back for the visitors when Gullan drilled home his second with a terrific strike from 18 yards.

Mark Stewart pulled a goal back with a neat finish into the bottom corner with 15 minutes left.

Dumbarton – Mcgeever (33), Watson (og 38); East Fife – Denholm (7), Watt (30, 65), Boyd (55)

East Fife were ahead after seven minutes when Danny Denholm latched on to a long pass and, with the Sons defence posted missing, ran in to slide home.

No. 2 arrived on the half-hour mark after Liam Watt tapped in at the back post after a ball in from the left. Dumbarton had posed no threat at all up to that point, but, three minutes later, had a lifeline when Ryan Mcgeever headed home from Joe Mckee’s corner.

It was all square soon after when Craig Watson put through his own net from PJ Crossan’s low ball in from the right.

The visitors found their rhythm again in the second half and, after Steven Boyd was denied by the home keeper from his first effort on 55 minutes, he made no mistake with his second.

Ten minutes after that, Watt ran on to a defence-splitting pass to finish. Dumbarton worked hard, but could find no way back.

Clyde

Peterhead

Clyde – Rumsby ( 78); Peterhead – Mcallister ( 22, 30)

Peterhead almost made the perfect start after two minutes when Jamie Stevenson’s long throw from the right was knocked on to Jack Leitch, but his hooked shot from 10 yards was easily saved by keeper David Mitchell.

Peterhead created an opening after 17 minutes when Leitch slipped the ball through to Rory Mcallister, but Mitchell made a terrific block.

The Blue Toon deservedly took the lead after 22 minutes when Scott Brown picked out Mcallister, who cashed in on a blunder by defender Martin Mcniff before lashing the ball low into the far corner of the net.

Peterhead added a second on the half-hour when Leitch clipped a reverse pass into the path of Mcallister, and he blasted high into the net from six yards. Clyde, who have won just once over the Blue Toon in their last seven league clashes, scored 12 minutes from time when Scott Rumsby floated a header into the net after a free-kick from Ray Grant, but the Blue Toon held out.

Montrose

Forfar ATH

Lyons (33), Whyte (og 46), Struthers (81)

The Gable Endies grabbed the opener when Blair Lyons collected a pass from Graham Webster and blasted home.

Webster almost made it 2-0 four minutes before the break when he fired over from just in the box.

However, it took the hosts only a minute into the second half to double their lead when Webster’s free-kick into the box was inadvertently headed past keeper Marc Mccallum by Darren Whyte.

Another Webster free-kick shortly afterwards struck the post.

Hilson had a good chance to reduce the deficit in the 57th minute when he raced clear, but he scooped the ball over the bar from a good position.

Forfar’s day of misery was compounded nine minute from time when defender Mark Docherty inexplicably gave the ball away around 20 yards from goal to Montrose sub Shaun Struthers, who kept his cool to round the keeper and slot the ball home to seal the win.
