Blade Fleck is ready to cut Reds down to size

- By Danny Stewart SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

John Fleck admits it is almost hard to believe Sheffield United are able to look down the English Premier League table at today’s visitors Manchester United. Runners-up to Norwich City in last season’s Championship, Chris Wi l d e r’s m e n have been little short of sensational since making the step up to the top flight.

After all the teams had played a dozen games they were in fifth place, a point and two positions above the Red Devils.

“It has been great. We’re sitting in a very good position at the m o m e n t ,” said the Scotland internationalist.

“It has been tough, as always. But I am enjoying it. been for the last three or four seasons.

“If you can work as hard as you can, you never know where it might get you. It is doing us well.

“We have a manager who is hard to please and he just wants to win, regardless of anything.” Not, though, to the extent of re p l a c i n g the men who got the Blades up with flashy replacements.

“The club hasn’t spent a lot of money compared to other clubs in this league,” said the former Rangers midfielder.

“Our manager could have made changes, if he wanted, and who knows how that would have gone?

“But he has kept boys together who work hard for him and it has served him well so far.

“Fulham last year spent over £ 100 million and went back down. That’s the gamble you take. “Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Obviously, our manager h a s ma d e the right decision.

“At Sheffield United t h e re a re b oy s w h o played League One who have worked really hard to get here over the last four or five years. It was always the aim.

“So we’re all thankful we have this chance now, and enjoying the moment with matches like this one against Manchester United, a highlight.”
