Carrick’s quickfire brace for deadly Diamonds

-

Mitchell kept Clyde in contention with a fine save from Stefan Mccluskey midway through the second half.

Johnston looked to be the Bully Wee’s most likely source of an equaliser, twice going close in quick succession.

Falkirk

stranraer

Mcmanus (18), Doyle (40), Durnan (72)

The honeymoon continues for Falkirk as the Bairns recorded their first league win under the interim-manager coupling of Lee Miller and David Mccracken.

A simple set-piece provided the opener for the Bairns as Louis Longridge floated an inswinging cross to the back post for a poorly-marked Declan Mcmanus to rise and head home from almost on the goal-line.

Blues winger James Hilton raised the blood pressure of Robbie Mutch on the half-hour mark with a dangerous shot that the keeper battled to control, but the home side were not fazed and doubled their lead just before half-time.

Paul Dixon whipped a ball into the box, and foraging right-back Michael Doyle outmuscled Jordan Allan at the back post to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

It was simplicity once again for

Falkirk’s third as the visitor ’s defence failed to pick up Mark Durnan at a Charlie Telfer corner, allowing the centrehalf to power a header into the net.

Montrose

Spencer (69)

raith rovers

Montrose were left wondering how they managed to lose after dominating the game against title hopefuls Raith Rovers. Montrose were on top from the start and, in 16 minutes, shots from Webster, Steeves and Lyons were all blocked by the Raith defence.

On 29 minutes, Craig Johnston shot just wide, then, a minute later, Blair Lyons had the ball in the Raith net, but was penalised for hand-ball.

Raith grabbed the lead with their first real effort on target in 69 minutes. Aaron Lennox punched clear a corner and Brad Spencer drove home a left-foot drive from 25 yards.

There was no way back for Montrose and, with 90 minutes on the clock, Lennox saved at the feet of Dan Armstrong to deny Raith a second.

In added-time, Webster had a drive blocked as Montrose battled to the final whistle.
