Raith stunned as Sons state their intentions

-

Clyde made a dream start when Mark Lamont’s free-kick was met by Alex Petkov to power in a header for his first goal for the club.

Lamont went close to adding a second with a shot from a tight angle which almost squeezed in at the post.

But the lead was doubled minutes later when Airdrie failed to clear a corner and David Goodwillie sent a spectacular overhead-kick soaring high into the net.

At the other end, David Mitchell was beaten by Dale Carrick’s fierce shot as the Diamonds grabbed a lifeline before the break.

Sean Crighton went close to levelling on the restart, but his header flashed over. Airdrie had the wind in their sails and Callum Fordyce’s header was just too high as they searched for parity.

Goodwillie sealed the points in time added when he lobbed keeper David Hutton from outside the box.

Forfar athletic

Stranraer – Jones (57, 83); Forfar – Docherty (16), Hilson (34), Forbes (59), Burns (81)

Forfar drew first blood when former Stranraer man Mark Docherty returned to haunt his old club by heading home Ross Forbes’ free-kick.

Stranraer were then caught napping for Forfar’s second. A quickly-taken corner saw the ball again worked to Forbes, who found Dale Hilson at the near post and he flicked the ball beyond Max Currie.

Stranraer gave themselves hope 12 minutes after the restart when they managed to pull one back. Goalkeeper Marc Mccallum failed to hold Jordan Allan’s cross and Robert Jones fired home the loose ball from eight yards.

Forfar instantly restored their two-goal advantage when Forbes slid in to beat Currie to a cross.

Forfar put the icing on the cake nine minutes from time. Currie sliced a clearance and Sean Burns was on hand to roll the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Stranraer did again pull one back when Jones nodded home on 83 minutes.

Montrose

Falkirk

Montrose – Masson (68), Webster (pen 85); Falkirk – Mcmillan (39, Mcmanus (52), Connolly (90+1)

In five minutes, Graham Webster forced a diving save from Falkirk keeper Robbie Mutch, while, at the other end, Gregor Buchanan shot just over.

Terry Masson then drove over for Montrose in 32 minutes.

Falkirk grabbed the lead in 39 minutes when a Louis Longridge free-kick was headed home by David Mcmillan.

It was 2-0 in 52 minutes when Declan Mcmanus turned his marker and shot home.

Montrose got a goal back in 68 minutes when Terry Masson scored with a shot which the assistant ruled had crossed the line.

In 85 minutes, Blair Lyons was brought down in the box and Webster levelled from the spot.

In stoppage-time, Montrose didn’t deal with a Ross Maclean corner and Aidan Connolly won the game from close range.

Peterhead

east Fife

Peterhead – S Brown (86);

East Fife – Denholm (20), Agnew (78)

With their first effort on goal, East Fife broke the deadlock on 20 minutes. Defender Scott Hooper was short with a header back to his keeper and Danny Denholm could scarcely believe his luck as he tucked his shot past the exposed Greg Fleming.

Peterhead had a decent chance to level after 52 minutes, Jack Leitch’s shot going wide of the goal.

The game turned into an end-to- end affair with both sides attacking.

East Fife made it 2-0 on 78 minutes, Aaron Dunsmore crossing for Scott Agnew to sidefoot home waist-high from six yards at the back post after Jason Brown was caught napping on the ball.

Six minutes from the end, Peterhead made things interesting by pulling a goal back. Scott Brown scored with a wellstruck shot from the edge of the area, but it proved to be too little too late.
