“At this early stage of the project, persuading them might be the issue.

“But that’s why we’ve got to get the message out about what we’re all about and what we’re trying to achieve here. “Ultimately, we want to move up the leagues.

“We want to create an infrastruc­ture where the club can move forward, bring through players, create pathways.

“The transforma­tion from amateur to profession­al football means there’s a lot of work needed, but it’s getting under way now and I’m relishing it.

“Hearing from people at the club about their desire to take it forward and move up the leagues was so appealing – and the ambition was crucial for me. “It matches my own.

“People want to invest in this project – and we’re talking about people who are seriously smart, impressive business-people.

“To be involved right at the start of this journey is exciting because the people here have ambition.

“But ambition on its own isn’t enough. The people here also have strategies and they know how to build a winning organisati­on.”

To that end, Mckinnon has reunited with his former Raith Rovers and Dundee United assistant, Laurie Ellis, while his Falkirk number two, Darren Taylor, will work with the pair on a part-time basis.

“I’m excited about working with Laurie again because he’s an excellent young coach and we’ve have success together before,” he said.

“We worked well together in the past and I know we’ll drive each other on at Queen’s Park.

“But there’s plenty to be excited about here and I’m loving the experience.”
