Don’t catch me if you can... Hanks and wife on mend

-

Rita Wilson with hubby Tom Hanks

Like in the rest of the world, it’s a funny old time in Tinseltown. The streets are quiet, restaurants, bars and cinemas are closed. Coronavirus has hit hard.

When Covid-19 was mentioned here, at first people joked that they hadn’t seen Covid-1 through to 18, so they had no idea what to expect of the sequel. All that has changed of course.

Catch Me If You Can star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson became the first famous people to contact the virus. Tom’s been filming the new Baz Luhrmann Elvis Presley biopic, in which he plays the singer’s manager Colonel Tom Parker, in Australia. Thankfully they seem to be doing well and are in self-quarantine at their house in Queensland. Tom has to be especially careful as he’s diabetic too. But he posted on social media on Wednesday: “Hey folks. Good news. One week after testing positive, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs. Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch.” But added: “Bad News: My wife has won six straight hands of gin rummy and leads by 201 points. But I have learned not spread my Vegemite so thick.”

This was in reference to getting roasted online after posting a photo of a slice of toast with what Aussie social media users said was way too much of the gooey stuff plastered on it. The movie business like every other one at the moment is in a state of limbo. Production on all TV shows and movies has basically shut down. Insurance is a huge problem and now many movie release dates will be pushed back. Thankfully, there is a back catalogue of great series and movies to watch as we sit out our days in self-isolation.
