Invincibles spirit is needed to make it 10

- By Danny Stewart sport@sundaypost.com

Christopher Jullien believes Celtic might need to match the standards of Brendan Rodgers’ “Invincibles” to clinch 10-in-a-row.

The Hoops grabbed a place in history in 2016-17 when staying unbeaten for the entire domestic campaign.

Confirmed as the champions for the ninth successive year when the SPFL called the Premiership, Neil Lennon’s men will have their own shot at football immortality when the game returns from lockdown.

Yet, while their French defender is confident Celtic can succeed, he fears they may have to be perfect to do so.

“It, 10, is a goal. When I arrived, the trainer, Neil Lennon, said to me and the team that the first goal is the championship,” said Jullien. “We have achieved that one and it is an unbelievable feeling, we are just so happy right now. We are going to celebrate it later all together.

“But the 10 will be even harder I think, because teams are going to want to break our run.

“We will have to battle for everything and put together a perfect year. But I know it is definitely going to be very hard. When I signed, this was something all the players talked about.

“The achievement they did before I arrived was already crazy, just unbelievable.

“10-in-a-row is going to be a great goal, it will be difficult for sure, but it is a target we want to go for.

“We are going to do our best to do it.”

Jullien, meanwhile, has singled out Fraser Forster’s heroics in keeping Rangers at bay in the Betfred League Cup Final as his highlight of 2019-20.

“I need to give thanks to Fraser because I have never seen a performance like that, it was the best performance I have seen from a goalkeeper,” he said.

“We had 10 men for quite a while ( Jeremie Frimpong was sent off just after the hour) and I think it was the most-difficult game of the season for us because of that moment. “With it being the Final there was a lot of pressure on us. To win the Cup after that was amazing.

“You just have to look at the faces of everyone at the end of the game to know how hard it was and how good the win was for the club.

“Now I can’t wait to get back on the pitch playing football with all my team-mates.”
