The applause was a weekly ritual for 10 weeks during lockdown, which saw people cheer on their doorsteps and hit pots and pans. NHS Scotland chief executive John Connaghan said: “It gives us another opportunity to once again say to those working in, and with, our NHS – thank you.”
A national minute’s silence was held at 8pm last night to remember those who died from Covid-19. The public were also asked to put a light in their windows at home in remembrance and public buildings were also lit up in NHS blue, including the Armadillo in Glasgow and St Andrew’s House, the Scottish Government’s headquarters in Edinburgh. Other landmark buildings lit up included Blackpool Tower, the Royal Albert Hall, the Shard and the Wembley Arch in London.
