One result won’t tarnish Liverpool’s title

-

Liverpool’s 4-0 defeat at Manchester City last midweek was a sore one for us all. Sure, the hard work has been done, and the league title has been won.

But that doesn’t mean Jurgen Klopp and the players wanted to lose the game.

Liverpool hit a post at 0-0, and that could have made a difference.

But, over the piece, Pep Guardiola’s team deserved the victory and they still have plenty to play for. They have a Champions League tie against Real Madrid on the horizon and an FA Cup semi-final with Arsenal. They have so much on the go and, with the League Cup in the bag, could end the season with three trophies.

Again, it shows the high standards set by Liverpool and Manchester City in recent years. Both clubs are incredibly consistent, and you have to applaud the levels they have reached. The bar is just so high. Other clubs will really need to go some to catch up. But I do believe the others will make progress in the new season, and make it all tighter.

When you look at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, you can see them both going in the right direction.

Spurs will also improve under Jose Mourinho, you would imagine.

It all points towards an absolute cracker of a campaign for 2020-21. However, the enjoyment of what has been achieved this season by Liverpool should still be savoured and cherished.

A lot of work went into it over a long, long period of time – and one result won’t tarnish it, that’s for sure.
