Robinson laments lack of VAR as Well are denied a win

- By Danny Stewart SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Stephen Robinson last night insisted Motherwell should have had all three points from their Easter Road stalemate with Hibs.

The Fir Park boss watched his side get the ball in the net in the first half through Jordan White’s volley only to have the goal disallowed for offside against Sherwin Seedorf who was between the striker and keeper Ofir Marciano.

“After seeing it back, the screenshot, as he hits the ball he (Seedorf ) is not in line with the goalkeeper at all,” he said.

“What you would do for VAR up here? The assistant has called it from 40 yards away; the referee is not in line with the ball.

“I have seen them given them the other way and I am sure Jack (Ross) has stood here and said it should have been disallowed.

“We should have won 1-0.Our performance deserved to.

“We showed how good a side we are in organisation and possession and creating chances against a good Hibs side.

“To come here, dominate and be in complete control of the game, I think our performance deserved the 1-0 result. The referee has made a call but for me it’s a mistake.

“But it was a very good performance from the midfield against very good players and now we need to follow that up with three points on Saturday.” Meanwhile, Hibs manager Jack Ross strived to look on the positive side.

“I was disappointed in terms of possession but I wasn’t disappointed about our application and our willingness to defend properly because I think that was evident,” he said.

“If you flipped it round and we had drawn the game against Kilmarnock and then won the next three, I would be standing here waxing lyrical about our start to the season.

“So it is important we remember that. I am not disguising the fact we didn’t play anywhere near the level we can on the ball tonight but off the ball we were solid.

“Ten points out of 12 is a very good start.” Ross had particular praise for his goalkeeper Marciano, who pulled off a great save to deny Callum Lang, and the rest of his back line.

“Ofir has not had a lot of saves to make in the four games,” he said.

“This is probably the first one we have had to rely on him but he has trained really well. “Individually our defensive players have been good all season – the fact we have not conceded from open play has been testament to that.”
