Capello backs Milan’s Alfredo move

Former England manager, Fabio Capello, believes AC Milan’s interest in Alfredo Morelos should be seen as a huge vote of confidence in the Colombian.

The Rangers striker was left out of yesterday’s match with Kilmarnock as speculation over a move away from Ibrox continues.

Already Ligue 1 side, Lille, have had a £16-million bid rejected. With Rangers believed to be holding out for £20m, the French club’s president, Gerard Lopez has said it was unlikely they would make another offer.

Other clubs on the Continent are monitoring the player’s situation, including AC Milan, and Capello can see why the Serie A giants are interested. “From what I have seen of Morelos myself, I think he is a very strong player, both physically and technically,” said the 74-year-old, who played for and managed the San Siro club.

“I know the club very well. Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini (the club’s sporting and technical directors) are very good at their jobs, and if they are following him, then I am sure they consider him to be an excellent player.”

Capello also believes former Celt, Moussa Dembele’s matchwinning turn for Lyon against Manchester City will be seen as a positive advert for the Scottish top flight.

“He really impressed me,” Capello continued.

“You can see that he is a very strong player, and that he has grown a lot in Scotland.

“It is not easy to enter from the bench and be so decisive. He knows what he is doing and it shows that he is an attacker with a nose for goal.

“I really enjoyed his second goal against Manchester City, the one that ended the game. “He is a great striker who has a great career ahead of him.”
