imperative that you hit fairways, and I did not do that.”

England’s Nathan Kimsey and Andrew Wilson held a share of the lead when play was suspended at the Open de Portugal last night.

The pair were tied on eight-under along with home hope Vitor Lopes at Royal Obidos, one stroke ahead of Welshman Jamie Donaldson.

All of those top four players were yet to begin their third rounds after bad weather on Friday had left the tournament running behind schedule.

Kimsey and Wilson both carded five- under- par 67s as the second round was completed to join Lopes at the top of the leaderboard.

The Portuguese, who led after the first round, shot 71 while Donaldson finished with an eagle for a 67.

The leaders were scheduled to go out again in the evening as the third round belatedly got under way late afternoon but fading light prevented them getting to the first tee. Play resumes this morning.

Sweden’s Julia Engstrom survived a nervous final round yesterday to win her second LET title of the season at the Lacoste Ladies Open De France.

Engstrom began the day with a four-shot lead but struggled to a closing one-over-par 72 to finish a shot ahead of home favourite Celine Herbin and Argentina’s Magdalena Simmermacher, who surged through the field with a 66.

England’s Florentyna Parker finished alone in fourth place following a final round of 69, with compatriot Charlotte Thompson and Scotland’s Kylie Henry two shots further back in a tie for sixth.
