Zoo cuties put me off my lines

-

Gail’s new series, Inside The Zoo, gives a glimpse of life for the 200 staff caring for more than 3,000 animals at Edinburgh Zoo and sister site, the Highland Wildlife Park, near Aviemore.

The eight-part series shows the zookeepers hard at work using state-of-the-art science …and lots of love. “It’s things we don’t get to see very often,” explained Gail. “We meet the amazing keepers and hear their stories, and also meet the animals and find out about breeding processes and lots of other things.

“The production team knew I was a big fan of the zoo, so asked me to narrate the show. I used to go when I was younger, either on school visits or with my mum and dad.

“It was great to reminisce when I was back with my daughter recently, although I’d forgotten how steep the hills are!”

Gail recorded the voiceover during lockdown. “I went to Soho and it was really odd, because it was just me and an engineer, who was in another room, and a producer from Glasgow on the video screen, so I didn’t really see anyone. “The documentary is beautifully shot and it’s quite emotional. Sometimes I would miss my lines in the studio, because I would see something cute on screen and say, ‘Aw, look at that!’

“I’ve been tuning in to watch along with everyone else.”
