The Spray Factory’s limit is your imagination
Your dream kitchen will not be out of reach after all if you call in the experts at this family-run spraying and painting business that promises the wow factor
The Covid-effect has seen homeowners across Scotland carrying out long-awaited renovations to their homes, and this has been good news for companies like The Spray Factory Ltd.
Guided together now by brothers Ally and Charlie Small, after dad Stewart retired this year, The Spray Factory moves into a fifth generation of the family painting and spraying business.
Leaders in their field, they specialise in transforming kitchens from Dornoch to Dumfries – for only a fraction of the cost of a brand-new one.
In recent months, the Small brothers

Ally, whose great-great-grandfather launched a painting company in 1894, explained: “People are remaining at home this year due to the current pandemic and, instead of going on holiday, are investing a little of their savings towards renovating their house, perhaps upcycling a tired, outdated piece of furniture or upgrading their kitchen. It’s all part of the Covid-effect and it has helped to increase our business.
“This so-called throwaway culture the world was accustomed to is certainly changing. Clients are now viewing their 20-year-old kitchen and looking for change, there is nothing wrong with the existing layout, it just seems a little old-fashioned and tired. So, instead of ripping it out, they are having it resprayed and The Spray Factory is meeting this need.”
The family-run Spray Factory was launched 15 years ago and prides itself on its professional service and quality finishes, something many homeowners would struggle to achieve if they went down the DIY route.
Ally pointed out: “Many people like to have a go themselves but, for real quality and a durable finish for the next 20 years, it is always advisable to engage the professionals.”
Covering the majority of Scotland, The Spray Factory service carefully removes your kitchen cupboard doors, drawers and trims, before transporting them to its factory in Brewery Lane in central Dundee. There, in dedicated spray oven booths, a new finish is spray-baked on, providing a long-lasting and durable finish.
Ally explained: “We use a 2 Pack paint, which is highly durable and is designed for kitchen and furniture manufacturing. We will then return to site and reinstall the frontages, while finishing the non-removable elements on site.”
The Spray Factory can completely change the look, colour, finish and feel of your kitchen.
So, if you are currently thinking about having your kitchen or furniture items re-sprayed, your choices are considerable. A satin finish is the most popular and easiest to maintain or you can opt for matt or gloss finish.
Light, mid and dark greys are the most popular colour choices now as Ally reveals “eight in 10 kitchens we are respraying now are in shades of grey, but we can colour match to any colour.
“As our tag line suggests, our limit is your imagination!”
As well as spraying kitchen frontages, The Spray Factory can also assist in the supplying and installation of new worktops, splashbacks and appliances, if so desired.
It really is a one-stop family business for a new-look kitchen, and all at the fraction of the cost of a brand-new one.
