LOWLAND LEAGUE

-

In the only game played due to the wintry conditions, BSC GLASGOW manager Stephen Swift was very pleased with the result as his side jumped to second top spot in the Lowland League after a 3-2 win over CALEDONIAN BRAVES.

But he admitted he was disappointed with his side’s performance after they took the lead and then had to fight back after going 2-1 down at the interval.

He said: “I suppose it’s a positive that we can win games while playing poorly and we’ve got to take the positives out of that.

“We went a goal up and then we gifted them a goal after confusion between the keeper and the centre-back. We thought we were going to wipe the floor with them, but they suddenly found themselves back in the game. This was a massive momentum switch and then they scored five minutes later.”

Swift added: “I asked serious questions of the boys at half-time and told them our season was on the line and we couldn’t afford to be beaten at home.

“We had to go and take the bull by the horns and I have to give the boys a bit of credit for they stood up and answered the question. But we’ve got to get better – and they know that.”

It was the only New Year game to beat the weather and it turned out to be a thriller as the title challengers fought back, but are still six points adrift from leaders Kelty Hearts.

BSC went ahead when Alfie Agyeman poked the ball home from a Jamie Glasgow pass after 12 minutes and Glasgow almost got a second three minutes later with a curling shot which brought a brilliant save from Braves keeper Yohann Chardon.

Then, in the 17th minute, Braves were back on level terms thanks to an own goal from Ross Mcmillan whose passback lobbed his keeper and went into the net.

In the 20th minute, Jack Smith beat the offside trap and gave keeper Andy Leishman no chance to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.

Just on the half-time whistle, Agyeman almost got his second goal, but his tremendous shot was pushed past for a corner.

BSC fought hard in the second half and Ross Lyon levelled the score on 68 minutes when he drove the ball home and, eight minutes later, Michael Anderson got a third and winner for BSC when he finished off a cross from the left.
