Megastars and Stripes: The A-list’s faith in next president is, I’d say, unimpeachable
Who knows how it will go on Wednesday? After four long years Donald Trump will exit the White House and, if the past few weeks are anything to go by, he won’t go quietly.
I’m not sure the man who has gold-plated elevators in Trump Tower has ever done anything quietly.
This week, Tom Hanks will host an inauguration special for US TV viewers and those streaming on the internet around the world to welcome President Joe Biden and his Vice-president Kamala Harris to the top jobs in the country, and the world. America’s most beloved movie star turning up to your first day on the job isn’t bad, is it?
I’m looking forward to seeing Captain Phillips star Tom on hosting duties.
He’s a bit like Jimmy Stewart in that he’s got that likeable quality and will, I imagine, soothe the nation at what is a tense time following the storming of the Capitol building in Washington two weeks ago. Also set to attend or perform are
Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato and Jon Bon Jovi.
Cast your mind back four years ago and it was a gloomier affair. The Donald, a man who spent a lot of his life courting the limelight, was said to not really enjoy his inauguration.
Why? Well, there weren’t enough celebrities in attendance.
Actors Jon Voight and Stephen Baldwin were there but that wasn’t enough for Trump. No offence to either of them, but they’re not exactly multiple Oscar-winning icon Tom Hanks, are they?
The inauguration four years ago seemed to set the tone for Trump’s reign. It was a sparsely attended affair, unlike his predecessor Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony, with only about a third of the attendees.
Of course,trump’s press secretary said there were more people at his boss’s event, leaving everyone scratching their heads. Fake news had truly arrived in the White House!
I’m sure, if Trump still had access to Twitter and all the other social media channels from which he’s been banned recently, he’d have something public to say about it.
His removal from the Twittersphere was largely welcomed by celebrities, many of whom weren’t his biggest fans.
Donald called model and activist Chrissy Teigen “filthy mouthed” recently after an X-rated outburst.
She reacted to his ban the other day with a tweet simply containing a big laugh.
Julia Louis-dreyfus, who played a fictional president in Veep, also couldn’t contain her delight.
Although she also couldn’t resist a dig at Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, asking what took him so long to act.
Donald may not be on Twitter, Facebook,youtube or a host of other platforms any more but is it the last we’ve seen of him? Despite him being voted out, I strongly doubt it.
One thing is for sure.with an ego that titanic we’ve certainly not seen the last of The Donald.
