Seasonisover for former Aberdeen starlet Ross

Former Aberdeen starlet, Frank Ross, has suffered injury heartache in Holland.

He is out for the season after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament.

The 22-year-old moved to Dutch second-tier outfit, Go Ahead Eagles, after being handed a two-year deal following a trial last summer.

He had impressed in his 18 games for the club.

But the midfielder, who spent five years at Pittodrie, was stretchered off during a Dutch Cup tie against VVVVenlo during the week, and will now need to have surgery on the knee injury.

Go Ahead Eagles boss, Kees van Wonderen, admits he’s devastated for Ross, who has previously suffered a series of injuries in the past two years after spells on loan at Morton and Ayr United.

He said: “It’s a tragedy for the boy. “We feared it was a serious injury because Frank told me after the game he felt something snap in his knee, which was obviously a bad sign.

“It’s very, very sad for Frank, and hard for him.

“He’ll probably get the surgery done in Scotland, and he’ll be out for the rest of the season.

“Frank will need some time to process what has happened and to get over it.”

Ellon-born Ross was on the books at Pittodrie from the age of 8, and made his debut against Dundee when he was 17.

He netted a free-kick for Aberdeen against Rangers in a 2-1 home defeat in December, 2017.

Ross – who had been capped for Scotland at every level from Under15 to Under-19, made a total of 14 appearances for the Dons, but was allowed to leave in the summer.
