Date on Zoom? Just one look and his heart will go boom

-

Valentine’s Day usually calls for a candle-lit dinner, wearing a new dress and red-hot lipstick – and just because we can’t go to a bar or restaurant, our 2021 celebrations don’t have to be any different.

Here, make-up artist Saffron Hughes gives her top tips for creating a lovely look for a romantic Zoom date.

Glow for it

Saffron recommends starting with a tinted moisturiser, rather than foundation, to give your complexion a healthy, hydrated glow.

She said:“full coverage foundation doesn’t always feel appropriate or needed during lockdown. However, we still want our skin to look good for our Zoom date. Tinted moisturisers are just as their name suggests; a facial moisturiser with make-up pigments. It provides light coverage whilst also hydrating the skin, leaving you with a glowing finish.”

Beautiful blush

Saffron continued:“webcams often dilute colour and make our skin look washed out, so you’ll want to add a pop of colour. Gel formula blush appears more vibrant and radiant via Zoom, unlike powders which tend to mattify and cling onto dry skin.

“Using a damp sponge, blot the gel blush onto your cheeks to make the colour look like it’s coming from within, rather than sitting on top of your skin.”

All about the eyes

Although bright, neon colours can feel a little inappropriate for an indoor video-call setting, don’t ditch the eyeshadow altogether.

“A little colour can make a big difference,” said Saffron. “Pick a shade close to your skin tone, whether it be a beautiful brown blended into the crease for definition, or a light-pink shimmer for fair skin.

“You can also opt for glitter toppers, naturally placed on your eyelid and in the inner corners, to add a discreet glow.”

Add a faux flutter

Saffron advised:“over webcam, our eyes tend to look more dull and tired, and sometimes mascara just doesn’t do the trick for opening up the eyes.you might think false eyelashes look too dramatic or requiring a lot of effort, but they can look natural and even save you the hassle of removing dried mascara later.

“For a Zoom date, opt for individual lashes, thin-stripped lashes or simply create demi wispies by cutting the eyelashes in half for a more natural look.”

Fluffy brows

Saffron added:“run a clean mascara spoolie over a bar of wet soap until it bubbles, then brush your brow hair upwards for a fuss-free yet full brow effect.”
