Patsy made sacrifices for love – but she won’t look back in anger
We’re already looking forward to spring, but while the days remain dark, some sunshinefilled shopping will brighten your day.
Some celebrities evoke a place and time and when I hear the name Patsy Kensit, I’m immediately transported back to my teens, when I was a baggy jeans-wearing Oasis fan. Patsy was married to frontman Liam Gallagher when the band was at its peak and I used to think she was the luckiest woman alive to be right at the epicentre of it all.
Now I’ve lived a little, I can see being in love with one of the world’s biggest rock stars wasn’t all it was cracked-up to be. Indeed, since their divorce in 2000, Patsy has talked frankly about Liam’s cheating and her insecurities during their five-year relationship. She even turned down the part of Ross’s girlfriend in Friends (which went to Helen Baxendale instead) because she didn’t want to leave his side. It must have been an excruciating decision to make, but she won’t be the last woman to make sacrifices for love.
Of course, Patsy was a star in her own right before she met Liam but it’s been heartening to see her continue her successful acting career over the years.
Now 52, and mum to two grown-up boys, Patsy’s rock’n’roll days are a distant memory.when we caught up with her this week, ahead of her latest TV role in ITV drama Mcdonald & Dodds, she insisted she feels happier than she’s ever been. On pages 6&7, she tells us: “When you’re young you think you can rule the world.yet when you get to my age you think how lucky you’ve been to have done so many incredible things.”
And I think that’s the best we can all hope for; to be able to look back on your life, without regrets, and without anger.
