Pierre van Hooijdonk scored twice to give Celtic a 2-1 win against Hibs at Easter Road. Pat Mcginlay had put the Edinburgh side ahead. Erik Bo Anderson (above) got a hat-trick as Rangers thrashed Partick Thistle 5-0 at Ibrox, while Colin Cameron, Neil Pointon and Gary Mackay hit the net in Hearts’ 3-1 victory over Raith Rovers. Southampto­n beat Manchester United 3-1 at The Dell. Three goals down, United changed from a grey kit to a blue-and-white outfit at half-time after struggling to pick each other out.

45 YEARS AGO

Rangers notched up 19 wins in a row at Ibrox by beating Dundee 3-0.

Bobby Mckean, John Greig and Derek Johnstone were the scorers.

Celtic slipped a point behind the Light Blues at the top of the Premier Division after a 3-2 defeat at Dundee United.

Tom Mcadam (above) scored twice for the Tangerines, with George Fleming also on target. Aberdeen’s Billy Williamson was sent off in his side’s 1-1 draw with Ayr United at Somerset Park.

55 YEARS AGO

Celtic reached a century of league goals for the season with a 5-0 win over Morton. Bertie Auld and Stevie Chalmers both hit doubles. Charlie Gallagher had opened the scoring. John Greig hit the net in Rangers’ 1-0 victory against Aberdeen at Ibrox. Henry Hall (above) got a brace in Stirling Albion’s 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle. John Kinnaird and Ian Henderson scored in Third Lanark’s 2-1 over Stranraer. George Graham bagged two goals for Chelsea in a 6-2 thumping of West Ham.
